Susan DeCostanza

Susan has been practicing law in Chicago, Illinois, since 2008 and has spent most of her career working on probate cases involving guardianships for adults with disabilities and children. Before joining Ruben Garcia and Associates, Ltd., Susan was the Director of the Guardian ad litem (GAL) for Adults program at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation (CVLS). Susan also has extensive experience in minor guardianship cases and has been appointed as GAL for children. Susan also previously worked at Chicago-Kent College of Law as a public interest career counselor, at a Chicago Civil Rights law firm and at DePaul University College of Law as Pro Bono Program Coordinator. Susan received the esteemed Kimball R. Anderson and Karen Gatsis Anderson Public Interest Law Fellowship in 2012 for her demonstrated commitment to public interest work, academic achievement and outstanding character and integrity. Susan also went on to win the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Distinguished Intern Alumni Award in 2017. Susan has served on the Justice for All Advisory Committee under the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts (AOIC) and Illinois Supreme Court’s Commission on Access to Justice. Susan earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Elementary Education at Boston College (2001) and her law degree at DePaul University College of Law (2008). Originally from Downers Grove, Illinois, Susan now lives in Chicago with her family. Susan is professionally fluent in Spanish.
